The "Over Efficiency of Some" Online Ads

“Over the past 60 years, marketing has moved from being product-centric (Marketing 1.0) to being consumer-centric (Marketing 2.0). Today we see marketing as transforming once again in response to the new dynamics in the environment. We see companies expanding their focus from products to consumers to humankind issues. Marketing 3.0 is the stage when companies shift from consumer-centricity to human-centricity and where profitability is balanced with corporate responsibility.” ― Phillip Kotler

Social media marketing which is also called Internet or online marketing/advertising, is a process of driving traffic to various platforms/social media sites for the purpose of publicity/brand awareness, customer service management, sharing information or promoting various goods and services. Also companies join the social channels and consumers can interact with them, this interaction feels personal to users because of their previous experiences with social networking site interactions.  The internet is accessible to anyone via a mobile or smartphone and other various gadgets; it also allow individuals to interact with one another and build relationships via these social media sites.

However, over the past few years, advertising/marketing on social media platforms in Nigeria has a taken a different shape and has become irritable. You cannot visit any site now especially on the Google Platform without being bombarded with various clips from different companies/organizations/online stores advertising their products. For example, for every single YouTube video you click to watch, you find one advert and it reoccurs like that for each view. It is worthy of note that there is a "Skip Ad" icon which enables you to skip the Ad about to be shown but it still wears one out having to always do that. Also, you will notice that irritant adverts that pop-up when you visit any other site. The latest which I noticed, are Ads from different organizations/companies/online stores, StanbicIBTC Bank, MTN, Jumia, Konga, and even Ads telling me how I can make #41,000 daily now pop-up above my blog page and even on my blog dashboard. Urgghhh!  I get the impression that some of these online Ads are Scams following the frequency by which they pop up on my screen.

Why should my privacy be invaded with so much arrogance and disrespect? Is it a crime to be signed on to a free platform or have an existing account with a site? I am not against social media marketing because I also use these social media platforms for adverts/promotions too, but I believe in modesty and caution in exhibiting these Online Ads campaigns.

“We don't have a choice on whether we do social media; the question is
how well we do it?       ― Erik Qualman

Idle? Get busy, Use your fingers

You will be shocked at how creatively channelling idleness can help you achieve a lot more and even bringing out the positive *not negative* innate hidden abilities you possess.

My humble self got very idle and bored one Sunday afternoon after a long nap when I got back from church and guess what, I just picked up my sister's bead box(she started making beads a while ago but claims she does not have time anymore). I searched through the set of unused beads she had in the box and got my hands busy, in less than 3hours, I came up with some very nice beads some of which are presented in the pictures!

Was proud of my achievement considering the fact that I had no formal bead training before now except from a friend of mine, Late Fatima Olayinka who I watched some years back while in school when she made  beads, and of course my sister when she was making a bead for our mum.

Surprisingly, barely 10mins after I used the pictures of the bead as display pictures on my BBM which I tagged "Fruits of idleness" I started getting loads of commendations and in-fact some people where wishing  for me to be idle so that I could come up with some more...lol . Some said that's an entrepreneurial spirit and encouraged me to think in that line. I wish I continued but my sister came snatching her beads according to her "I will spoil them" but did I actually do badly? you be the judge though...

Trust me to come up with a lot more soonest as I have been getting some funny idea lately and really been on the look out to try something new. I saw some very cute button designed interior decoration https://plus.google.com/u/0/112827054397386621787/posts https://plus.google.com/u/0/100859511220656941316/post
and I will try my fingers on them soon.

This drives home the fact that you can actually have some hidden innate abilities yet to be explored and sometimes idleness can bring them out. It may not necessarily be something to create, it could be poetry, music, drama etc. Yes you can write a script!

Just Get Busy!!!

Seeing into the future with the Google Glass

Here we go again!!

You may be wondering why I love to talk about gadgets, well like a colleague of mine said "Oby you are just a gadget freak" yea! not denying that, lol. Its just that I want to be able to experiment and try out new things with the latest technology which makes life easier you know!!

Back to today's gist, seen so much wave about the Google glass and really decided to check it out. Here's what I got and thought to share too. Trust Google to always come up with one innovation or the other but the product reviews I see make them always worth the buy.

About the Google Glass
The prototype Google Glass Explorer Edition which was introduced at the Google I/O conference last June finally had developers get their first taste of what they could do with it in January and February of this year.  The Google Glass Explorer Edition, which has a camera, multiple radios for data communication, a speaker and a mic and a gyroscope is the first product to come out of the company's Project Glass. A Glass device is something that lets you see and interact with the world around you without disconnecting from it, now this is interesting!

Its Design
The Google Glass headset is designed to be out of the way so it doesn't interfere with your activities. According to Google, it weighs less than most pairs of sunglasses. On the side is a touch pad for control, on top is a button for shooting photos and videos with the built in-camera, and there's a small information display positioned above the eye out of the line of sight. Some features includes a Broadcom 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi radio and Bluetooth 4.0 as well as bone-conduction speakers, which would keep your ears open to your surroundings. The Glass can also tell your position and orientation at all times. Check this link to really see what they are talking about: http://www.google.com/glass/start/how-it-feels

What can I do with Glass?
You can use the Google search, Google+Hangouts, live-stream video, read or listen to your mails, snap pictures or shoot some movies and share what you capture with little effort, but you'll have to inititate a voice command by saying "Ok,Glass" followed by whatever it is you want to do, such as "take a picture." The experience seems to be very similar for those who use Google Now on Android device with Jelly Bean.

Downsides
One downside of this is that the glasses have an audio output to the right ear only, and there's no earbud -- the sound just leaks into space, which means you will always have to cup your hand over your ear and the glasses' temple to amplify the sound, this will also let people around you know you are paying attention to your Glass device.
Also, you may have to take off your prescription lenses to wear the Google Glasses, but Google designer Isabelle Olsson (a former eyewear designer) says they are working with glasses manufacturers to serve glasses-wearing users.  Another downside is there may be absolutely no privacy anymore, you could be sitting in a restaurant and another person wearing a Google Glass can be filming everything you do because the Glass has the potential to make those tasks far less overt and more surreptitious.

Who may need this?
A major area of need I think this may be useful is in the Education sector which seems to be suffering. This maybe highly recommendable for Lecturers, teachers and students, not to encourage examination malpractices, but will increase intellectually abilities and access to information on the go following the ban of mobile phones in Government owned schools last year. Also Researchers, Journalists, Public relations specialists and Social media managers will find it very useful in carrying out their work effortlessly.

Well, we’ll have to wait to see the reception when the Google glass finally hits the market but trust my humble self to want one, it will just  me the hassle of carrying too many devices around, who knows we may be able to make cellular calls as well Lol.  I only fear the charges that will be accrued by Internet Service Providers (ISP) and Telecom operators.

Thanks for taking out time to read and please feel free to follow my blog and share too :-) :-) :-)

Love you plenty!!!

His BBM Will Soon Become My Mobile Bank

Research In Motion now popularly know as Blackberry plans to launch a mobile money platform which will enable you transfer money via its Blackberry Messenger(BBM) chat app. Reports say them wan collect market from WhatsApp but wait oo, sey WhatsApp na mobile money enabled app? Indonesia has been used to kick off in partnership with PT Bank Permata, who will set up the mobile money accounts, process financial transactions and manage bank-grade security measures including passcode, encryption and monitoring.

What is my Benefit?
According to them, the app should allow BBM users  to create and access accounts from their BlackBerry smartphone, transfer money to bank accounts and make real-time payments to other BBM contacts who also use BBM. Also app users can purchase mobile airtime or prepaid SIM cards for themselves, family and friends too.

How does it work?
If you want to do a transaction just go into BBM money and transfer in a simple way as if you are chatting.

Now what does this mean for the ladies...

  • He must have a blackberry.
  • No excuses any more of I could not get to the bank to do the transaction.
  • No more *the Mallam selling recharge card in my street has closed* you can now transfer via BBM.
  • Your BIS will not expire anymore.
  • Shop everywhere you go!
(Don't mention my name oo, that's at your own risk, lolllllllllllllllllllllllllll)

On a serious note now, I think this is a very good innovation coming from Blackberry. A lot of people choose not to download the BBM app, and according to them it causes a whole lot of distraction especially broadcast messages, which I agree also. But, if some other innovations like this can come up to create a lot of other uses of the app then maybe Apple may have a run for the market.

We earnestly await its arrival to naija, hoping that it will be successful as most of the mobile money platforms have not been in time past, also putting into consideration our epileptic power supply and network problems.

Don't dream my dream, be a part of my dream

Chatting with a friend somewhat propelled me to write this article, I had written “I keep dreaming” as my PM(Personal message) on BBM(Blackberry Messenger) yesterday and while we were chatting he made a comment “Am trying to make your dreams come true” I laughed hysterically after reading it,  this was spurred by the memory of the stage play I saw over the weekend “Anatomy of a woman” written by Wole Oguntokun and directed by Kenneth Uphopho of the Performing Arts Studios https://www.facebook.com/PAWStudios

The play centred on Bolatito, a young single working class lady who was being wooed by 3 suitors seeking to have her to themselves. She had first, Muhammed the dreamer, who was hoping to get his dream job some day and for the time being loafs around living on her bills. Second was Charles, aka Lord of the rings, a straight faced guy, who’s got a business of his own and doing quite well too but thinks highly of himself as being the man and finally Chief, her widowed boss in the office who thinks he could buy love with money and bought her a car and furnished apartment. But at the end of the day, the only trouble was… What does she really want?

Back to why I laughed, I simply asked my friend if he knew what was in my dreams but of course, he does not! I am sorry, I am not being a feminist, a man can only be a part of my dream but not the architect. He should be able to support me in achieving any dream, not building/crafting another that will suit him. We all have our destinies which God has ordained us to fulfil, let's use it wisely and not let anyone take that dream from you or better still try to “remix/refine” the dream for you.

At the end of the day, one thing was evident from that stage play, please men do not bug your head sometimes trying to figure out what women really want. A woman is free to choose only that which she wants to choose and different strokes for different folks.

"Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people-the ones who really belong in your life- will come to you. And stay"        ...Will Smith

8 Qualities of Remarkable Employees

While surfing the net a while ago on LinkedIn, came across this article I would like to share with you. I think its a very nice piece that would be of great benefit for both the employee and employers but especially to the latter. Enjoy!!!

A few hit the next level. Some employees are remarkable, possessing qualities that may not appear on performance appraisals but nonetheless make a major impact on performance.

Here are eight qualities of remarkable employees:
1. they ignore job descriptions. the smaller the company, the more important it is that employees can think on their feet, adapt quickly to shifting priorities and do whatever it takes, regardless of role or position, to get things done.
When a key customer's project is in jeopardy, remarkable employees know without being told there's a problem and jump in without being asked—even if it's not their job.
2. They’re eccentric... The best employees are often a little different: quirky, sometimes irreverent, even delighted to be unusual. They seem slightly odd, but in a really good way. Unusual personalities shake things up, make work more fun, and transform a plain-vanilla group into a team with flair and flavor.
People who aren't afraid to be different naturally stretch boundaries and challenge the status quo, and they often come up with the best ideas.
3. But they know when to dial it back. An unusual personality is a lot of fun... until it isn't. When a major challenge pops up or a situation gets stressful, the best employees stop expressing their individuality and fit seamlessly into the team.
Remarkable employees know when to play and when to be serious; when to be irreverent and when to conform; and when to challenge and when to back off. It’s a tough balance to strike, but a rare few can walk that fine line with ease.
4. They publicly praise... Praise from a boss feels good. Praise from a peer feels awesome, especially when you look up to that person.
Remarkable employees recognize the contributions of others, especially in group settings where the impact of their words is even greater.
5. And they privately complain. We all want employees to bring issues forward, but some problems are better handled in private. Great employees often get more latitude to bring up controversial subjects in a group setting because their performance allows greater freedom.
Remarkable employees come to you before or after a meeting to discuss a sensitive issue, knowing that bringing it up in a group setting could set off a firestorm.
6. They speak when others won’t. Some employees are hesitant to speak up in meetings. Some are even hesitant to speak up privately.
An employee once asked me a question about potential layoffs. After the meeting I said to him, “Why did you ask about that? You already know what's going on.” He said, “I do, but a lot of other people don't, and they're afraid to ask. I thought it would help if they heard the answer from you.”
Remarkable employees have an innate feel for the issues and concerns of those around them, and step up to ask questions or raise important issues when others hesitate.
7. They like to prove others wrong. Self-motivation often springs from a desire to show that doubters are wrong. The kid without a college degree or the woman who was told she didn't have leadership potential often possess a burning desire to prove other people wrong.
Education, intelligence, talent, and skill are important, but drive is critical. Remarkable employees are driven by something deeper and more personal than just the desire to do a good job.
8. They’re always fiddling. Some people are rarely satisfied (I mean that in a good way) and are constantly tinkering with something: Reworking a timeline, adjusting a process, tweaking a workflow.
Great employees follow processes. Remarkable employees find ways to make those processes even better, not only because they are expected to… but because they just can't help it. Great employees are reliable, dependable, proactive, diligent, great leaders and great followers... they possess a wide range of easily-defined—but hard to find—qualities.

Forget good to great. That's what makes a great employee remarkable.

THE SILENT UNKNOWN GENERATIONAL KILLER Live responsibly!

The weekend was indeed a long and tiring one for me, woke up on Monday morning for work still feeling very drowsy but overall it was fun. Anyway my sister and I visited my Uncle who is a Pharmacist by profession and was amazed at some of the things he told us which I cannot help but share. He surprisingly spoke up after we had discussed other family issues, saying he wanted us to get married and settle down as soon as possible, not just because we were getting older but because he knows that majority of our young female adults are using contraceptives. He strongly advised that we should desist if we were into such and that he would not keep mute and watch his nieces get into trouble knowing the implications of these drugs since he was in the field of medicine. He said" I am a pharmacist, we prescribe and sell these drugs but the truth will never be told of the dangerous after effects that these drugs portray.

Contraceptives he said, will carry out their job effectively but the after effect will manifest in the children of the said contraceptive user sometimes leading to cervical cancer. Another important area he mentioned is complication in child birth as a result of blood clotting as well as some causing obesity in females. A lot of these contraceptives causes blood clotting and other complications may arise due to improper blood circulation.

I have always been of the opinion that these contraceptives will always have a side effect and wondered how married couples are able to sustain their marriages without having to give birth to so many children. Being a catholic has helped to throw light more on contraceptives and the unhealthy implications of them as well as the need to only use the natural family planning method which happens to be the safest, healthiest, oldest, most effective, proven, tested and trusted method of birth control.

What more can we say, life has been made very easy and so we have it served on a platter of gold to us, but please we ladies are especially more at risk with the numerous side effects of all our risky behaviours, the men I am sorry to say and being unbiased are left to enjoy the benefits while we bear the brunt(Pregnancy, Cervical cancer etc) Today, we can choose to take a decision to stop the risky habits/behaviours that exposes one to a short life span.

Lets live responsibly!
Best wishes!

Discover the real you, It defines you!

How well do you know yourself? How well can you define the real you? We are often lost in wondering contemplation when asked to give a brief description of us, so it was rather interesting when I was asked to do a personality type review by a friend. I usually do not take personality tests serious each time I did it because I was of the opinion that it can never really be the true definition of me.
Alas when I took this personality test, It gave me a positive feedback, showing me the real ME in ME. Here’s what I got as my personality type combination: I am an Extravert, Intuitive, Feeler and Perceiver. It explained that people with the said type of personality combination tend to be: enthusiastic, talkative, and outgoing; clever, curious, and playful; deeply caring, sensitive, and gentle; highly innovative, creative, optimistic, and unique; adaptable and resourceful but sometimes disorganized (shame on me, truth is I am disorganized at times ooo, hmmnnn, don’t know if a potential suitor is reading this “winks”)
The most important thing to people who have got personality type like mine is freedom to see possibilities, make connections, and be with a variety of people. If know me, not just by judging from a distance, I guess you will agree with some of these findings. If you really know who you are, then all challenges will be surmounted.
I have embarked on a project I tagged with the help of a friend "THE 90% PROJECT" and as the day counts by with the clock ticking; I need the consciousness to surmount the challenges I do not see and I hope to emerge fresher like a newly hatched chick from its shell. Obstacles they say are what we see when you take your eyes off the goal. My dear diary beckons as loud as ever…
Praying until something happens.
