Don't dream my dream, be a part of my dream

Chatting with a friend somewhat propelled me to write this article, I had written “I keep dreaming” as my PM(Personal message) on BBM(Blackberry Messenger) yesterday and while we were chatting he made a comment “Am trying to make your dreams come true” I laughed hysterically after reading it,  this was spurred by the memory of the stage play I saw over the weekend “Anatomy of a woman” written by Wole Oguntokun and directed by Kenneth Uphopho of the Performing Arts Studios https://www.facebook.com/PAWStudios

The play centred on Bolatito, a young single working class lady who was being wooed by 3 suitors seeking to have her to themselves. She had first, Muhammed the dreamer, who was hoping to get his dream job some day and for the time being loafs around living on her bills. Second was Charles, aka Lord of the rings, a straight faced guy, who’s got a business of his own and doing quite well too but thinks highly of himself as being the man and finally Chief, her widowed boss in the office who thinks he could buy love with money and bought her a car and furnished apartment. But at the end of the day, the only trouble was… What does she really want?

Back to why I laughed, I simply asked my friend if he knew what was in my dreams but of course, he does not! I am sorry, I am not being a feminist, a man can only be a part of my dream but not the architect. He should be able to support me in achieving any dream, not building/crafting another that will suit him. We all have our destinies which God has ordained us to fulfil, let's use it wisely and not let anyone take that dream from you or better still try to “remix/refine” the dream for you.

At the end of the day, one thing was evident from that stage play, please men do not bug your head sometimes trying to figure out what women really want. A woman is free to choose only that which she wants to choose and different strokes for different folks.

"Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people-the ones who really belong in your life- will come to you. And stay"        ...Will Smith
